Dr Lloyd Hurrell is a specialist Paediatric Dentist who obtained his qualifications from the University of Adelaide and Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Lloyd has enjoyed varied and interesting roles in his career so far. He has spent time working in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory as well as starting a small dental clinic in rural Uganda. He worked for several years at the Sydney Dental Hospital including the as Acting Head of Department through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lloyd has several other current professional roles which help fulfill his multiple interests and passions within Paediatric Dentistry. He is currently a Staff Specialist at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, Westmead Centre for Oral Health as well as a Visiting Dental Specialist at the Children’s Hospital Westmead. In his role as Clinical Lecturer with the University of Sydney, he is heavily involved with training and mentorship of trainee specialist.
Lloyd’s particular interests include working with children who are anxious in the dental setting, managing dental trauma, paediatric oral surgery and providing sensitive care for children with complex medical conditions and special needs.
Lloyd gets great reward from working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide ideal outcomes for his patients. His overarching aim is to create a positive environment for children and families to be confident and happy about their dental health and wellbeing.
Lloyd maintains affiliation with a number of relevant specialist bodies and regularly attends continuing educational conferences. Dr Lloyd has presented at several local and international conferences. Lloyd was awarded the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Colgate Postgraduate Research Award for his final post graduate research thesis as well as being the winner of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry Recent Graduate Speaker Competition.
Outside of work, Lloyd is kept even busier, with three beautiful children. He loves swimming, surfing (if he gets the chance!), gardening, and enjoying good food with his family and friends.
