Meli was raised in a small town in Spain. She graduated as a dentist in 2001 from The University of Seville, where she completed her postgraduate training in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics in 2006. After finishing her orthodontic studies, she moved to Scotland where she worked for 10 and a half years for the National Health Service as an orthodontist. While she was living in the UK, she also presented her PhD research in Spain about rapid maxillary expansion in 2014. Meli moved to Sydney in 2018 and started her academic career at The University of Sydney in 2019. She has now extensive experience in Dentistry and Orthodontics being in the industry for nearly 21 years.

When she is not practicing Orthodontics, Meli enjoys her spare time reading and visiting her family and friends, and she loves all different sports, especially athletics competing as a high jumper.
